Methacrylic acid‐based amphiphilic block‐random copolymer stabilizers for emulsion polymerization

چکیده
The emulsion polymerization of styrene was investigated using polystyrene-b-[polystyrene-r-poly(methacrylic acid)] amphiphilic block-random copolymers (BRCs) different compositions as stabilizers. These stabilizers with molar masses <20,000 g/mol, which possess unique dispersion behaviour (i.e., self-assembly low aggregation numbers) when dissolved in aqueous medium at alkaline pH, were prepared by the nitroxide-mediated bulk to achieve a desired mass followed chain extension batchwise addition and methacrylic acid monomers obtain stabilizing group. Emulsion polymerizations stabilized these BRCs yielded stable latexes particle diameters that range between 30 150 nm. When concentrations stabilizer (2–3.5 mM) utilized for styrene, similar novel mechanism observed previously our group acrylic-acid based also seen, further validating difference this class polymeric surfactants conventional small molecule surfactants, block copolymers, or alkali soluble resins. performance methacrylic-acid more efficient higher surface coverage polystyrene compared result hydrophobic nature former.

متن کاملLignins as Emulsion Stabilizers
We report on the use of (kraft and soda) lignins as polymeric amphiphiles for the stabilization of emulsions. Lignins’ phase behavior in oil/water systems is presented and explained in terms of their molecular affinities. Emulsions with various oils (including crude oils) were formulated and their properties were rationalized in terms of lignin surface activity as a function of pH and salinity....

Translating the precise monomer sequence control achieved in nature over macromolecular structure (for example, DNA) to whole synthetic systems has been limited due to the lack of efficient synthetic methodologies. So far, chemists have only been able to synthesize monomer sequence-controlled macromolecules by means of complex, time-consuming and iterative chemical strategies such as solid-stat...

The adsorbed mucin layer on the copolymer surface 15 had the greatest thickness ...
متن کاملAmphiphilic Fluorinated Block Copolymer Synthesized by RAFT Polymerization for Graphene Dispersions
Despite the superior properties of graphene, the strong π–π interactions among pristine graphenes yielding massive aggregation impede industrial applications. For non-covalent functionalization of highly-ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG), poly(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (PTFEMA-b-PVP) block copolymers were prepared by reversible addition-fragmentation chain ...
